100 Men vs. a Gorilla

The viral internet debate has captivated the minds of Bush: What would happen if an angry silverback gorilla were pitted against 100 men in a fight? This is the question I asked 50 Bush students. There are many variations of this debate, but I laid out some ground rules when asking the students. The 100 men have an average physique, and the one gorilla is an average silverback gorilla. The men get no weapons, but they are allowed to all try to attack the gorilla at one time. Some more useful background knowledge: The average man weighs around 200 lbs, so 100 average men would be around 20,000 lbs. The average gorilla weighs around 400 lbs, but estimates say they could bench press up to 1,200 lbs, and they can throw objects over 800 lbs. These strength numbers will make it difficult for the gorilla to be beaten, but the sheer amount of men may be enough to tire the gorilla. Personally, I think that the humans wouldn’t be able to unite for enough momentary force to take down the gorilla, and that the gorilla has the size and strength to get a dominant victory. But enough of my thoughts; here’s what the Bush student body said!
Clement Hervet ‘27: “100 humans if they’re committed to the cause”
Barack Abdallah ‘24: “As long as the humans are not stupid it’s GGs”
Jack Armstrong ‘27: “100 humans because 40 alone would crush the gorilla.”
Sam Gaebler ‘27: “100 humans because the gorilla will get tired”
Peter Pasterczyk: “I think the gorilla would win. I’m going to assume it’s 100 average humans and an average gorilla. 100 people cannot attack a gorilla at the same time! Imagine I’m the gorilla. How many people could actually surround me? Maybe six? The second one person gets to me, they’re down.”
Tyee Kookesh ‘27: “100 humans because it is one gorilla. It seems pretty tiring.”
Sam Gaebler ‘27: “100 humans because the gorilla will get tired”
Lewis Nettleton ‘27: “They all die. It comes down to a one v one and they both choke each other to death. No one wins.”
Ayaan Bali ‘27: “If we took 100 of the peak physique human beings like Dwayne Johnson, fellas like that, could destroy a gorilla if there were 100 of them.”
Chase de Saint-Felix: “My serious take is that the entire discussion has devolved into issues of masculinity.”
Zach Taubman ‘27: “The abominable human spirit will persevere!”
Cole Johnston ‘28: “The humans can overwhelm the gorilla and we’re smarter. A 100 humans is a lot of humans, a gorilla is big but not as big as 100 humans.”
Lauren Staiman ‘27: “I don’t give a single crap”
Abby Alberg ‘28: “We could pick it up and throw it off a cliff.”
Final Score:
Humans: 39
Gorilla: 11
Hopefully this never happens in real life.
